Why is a Browse Fee incurred when obtaining a Victorian Title within our system

Many of our customers wonder why they have to Browse the Register by one of the following to obtain the Title details they require:

• Volume/Folio (searching will incur a browsing fee)
• Address
• Owner Name
• Plan (optional lot)
• SPI
• Council Property Number
• Crown Description

In Victoria, the only free browse is by searching with a Volume and Folio otherwise known as a Vol/Fol from the Title Search or the Vol/fol Package search option on the home screen. Any other property description stated above eg. Owner Name, Crown Description, Address will incur a statutory browse fee which is applied to all information brokers, along with individuals ordering searches directly from Landata. This fee cannot be avoided as it is a government fee charged by Land Victoria.
